Do-It-Yourself Tips for a Luxury Kitchen

May 2, 2010 By veroman

Do-It-Yourself Tips for a Luxury KitchenLuxury kitchens can add to the value of any house and make it more enjoyable for those who live there. While kitchen renovations can easily be one of the most expensive projects that you could undertake, there are several things that you can do in order to create a luxury kitchen without the large price tag. Here are some ways to build a luxury kitchen for less.

Save on the Countertop
Typically, one of the areas that people spend the most money is on their countertop. They will choose to purchase a granite or quartz countertop that costs thousands of dollars to have installed. This type of counter is very popular, and it is also extremely beautiful. However, you do not have to spend as much money if you want to get an equally beautiful countertop. You could consider purchasing a granite overlay instead. This is a product that fits over your existing countertop, and it looks exactly like a regular granite counter. You could also purchase granite tile that is cheaper because it does not come in a large slab.

Cheaper Flooring
There are also a number of ways that you could save money on the flooring for your kitchen. Instead of going with real hardwood or natural stone tile, you could easily go with a cheaper option that looks exactly the same. For example, if you are interested in putting hardwood in the kitchen, you could do with a much less expensive laminate that looks the same. You could also opt for ceramic or porcelain tile instead of marble or natural stone. There are even some high-end vinyl products that most people cannot tell is vinyl unless they touch it. Any of these options could potentially save you thousands of dollars.

Appliances
When it comes to remodeling your kitchen, you are most likely interested in getting new appliances. Stainless steel appliances are popular, and they can add a nice element to any kitchen. One of the best ways to save money on appliances is to purchase slightly damaged or used appliances. There are several appliance outlets that will sell new appliances that have a small dent on them for a fraction of the cost of a regular new appliance. You might be able to hide the dent on the side with your cabinets and save hundreds of dollars in the process.

Design Yourself
Many people that are going through the remodeling process end up hiring a decorator to do everything for them. While decorators can be handy, you can save some money by doing this part of the process yourself. There are numerous tools that you can use that will help you with the design process. You can use design software at a home improvement warehouse or online. You can even look at design magazines to get ideas for your project. By doing this, you can save a lot of money, and it will not be as difficult as you think.
